Florida Sunshine and Its Health Benefits

Posted on May 26, 2011

There’s sunshine where you are and there’s also sunshine where I am, but the sunshine in Florida is deemed to be much more enjoyable, as its beautiful beaches and lakes heightens the pleasure. It’s one of the reasons why a huge number of people in other U.S. states target Florida as their destination during the spring break.

Sunshine is also one big reason why many buy vacation homes in Florida. These homes become their sanctuary of warmth during the brutally cold winter season in their home states.

Of the 365 days of the year, Florida gets sunshine for an average of 300 days a year. Its average temperature is 70.7 degrees Fahrenheit and it rarely experiences freezing temperatures during winter.  In Tampa, the lowest temperature in the cold months of December to February is 51 degrees F, and in Miami, the coldest is 60 degrees F.

Jacksonville and Tallahassee have relatively colder temperatures, with 40 degrees and 43 degrees F, respectively, as their lowest temperatures. Then the doctor creates a customized prescription that is sent to a special pharmacy called a “compounding pharmacy.” These pharmacies create a custom blend of hormones according to the doctor’s prescription. This customized hormone preparation is unique to each patient, and contains only the hormones that are needed in the precise amounts to achieve the right balance for that patients body. Natural hormone replacement therapy can dramatically improve the quality of life for aging men and women. It can reduce the risk of many chronic disease, and allow people to feel and function like they did years younger than their real age. Since the earliest time, people have known the health benefits of sunlight. Parents bring out their newborn babies into the open so these tiny human beings can bathe in the rays of the sun, and absorb strength and energy that only the sun can give.

The following are among the health benefits that you and I can get from sunshine:

– The rays of the sun provides people with Vitamin D, a nutrient essential in preventing bone diseases, internal cancers, stroke, heart diseases, immune diseases and neurological illnesses. If Vitamin D is deficient, the bones are weakened, or the risks of cancers, arthritis, multiple sclerosis, type 2 diabetes and other deficiency illnesses are increased.

– The right level of exposure to sunlight helps body systems or processes, such as digestion, metabolism, kidney function, skeletal structure and immune system.

– Sunshine or sunlight has been proven to have a significantly positive impact on emotional health.

  • It fights depression. The natural light improves moods and feelings.
  • It reduces anxiety. There’s something soothing in light, enabling people to calm their nerves.
  • It helps people suffering from seasonal affective disorder fight symptoms. During dark, cold and lonely winters in northern states, a person with SAD can benefit from taking a vacation in Florida.

Of course, just like other good things in life that destroy rather than nurture if taken in excess, sunshine also damages the skin and can cause skin cancer if one is overexposed to the sun. A sunscreen with adequate UV-protective elements should be used by one who plans to stay longer under the sun. Come to Florida and enjoy the beautiful beaches and the sunshine. If you have time, you can also take a look at beautiful but affordable homes in Tampa.
