Tampa Among Top 10 Spring Break Destinations for 2012

Posted on March 16, 2012

Tampa is one of the Top 10 spring break destinations for 2012, according to the Orbitz Insider Index. It is ninth in the Top 10 list and it is one of four Florida cities that made the list.  The other three are Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Fort Myers. Florida is the only U.S. state with more than one city in the list. Also, a Florida city — Orlando — is on top of the list, the most popular spring break destination for 2012.

Powder white beaches, sunshine, theme parks, historic towns and cities, unique festivals — these must still be the favorites of spring vacationers. Add to these the availability of affordable quality-rated hotels and restaurants and the efficiency of the Tampa International Airport, which is also a perennial name on Top 10 lists.

The Top 10 list was compiled using data on bookings made on Orbitz.com as of February 23, 2012 for air travel from March 1, 2012 to April 22, 2012. Orbitz.com is one of the world’s largest travel websites that offer bookings for flights, hotels, cruises and car rentals and exclusive vacation packages.

In the Top 10 chart, Orbitz also listed that the average airfare to Tampa is $354 and the average daily hotel rate is $133. Both average airfare and hotel rates in Tampa 2012 increased from 2011 rates, but these are still lower than those in other cities. All 4 Florida cities have average daily hotel rates that are lower than $133 and average airfare rates lower than $386.
