One of the major reasons for the increase in population in the Tampa area is employee relocation or inward migration due to the rise in available jobs in the area. Based on charts from the US Labor Statistics, the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater area was the 9th fastest-growing metro area in the U.S. in non-farm jobs over the one-year period from January 2011 to January 2012. Among Florida metro areas, it was the fastest-growing metro. It surpassed the growth rate of Florida’s two other popular metro areas, the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach and the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford areas.
The other big reason is the choice of the Tampa area as retirement place for retired military personnel, other retirees, the 55+ age group, Canadian retirees and other foreign retirees. People in their golden age want to enjoy the beaches, historic districts, golf resorts, lakes, theme parks, access to cruise ships and other lovely destinations in the Tampa area. They can enjoy these almost all the days of the year without worrying about plowing the snow in their front and back yards and warming themselves from the freezing cold.
