Nearly 19,000 new jobs were created across Florida from January to November 2012, according to Enterprise Florida. Many of these jobs were created in Tampa, enabling more people to shift from renting to owning or to move-up and energize the Tampa Bay real estate market.
Below are some of the business enterprises that launched or expanded in the Tampa Bay area in the last quarter of 2012, having recognized great opportunities for their operations if they locate in the Tampa Bay region:
Biologics Development Services
Biologics Development is a start-up enterprise that will build a 6,000-square-foot scientific laboratory in Tampa’s West Shore Business District. It will invest $1.2 million to provide new-product research services to major biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.
Sun Hydraulics Corp.
Sun Hydraulics launched its third Tampa Bay manufacturing facility in Manatee County by investing in a 78,000-square-foot $6 million facility that will expand its operation of designing and building hydraulic cartridge valves and manifolds for fluid power systems. Since 2011, Sun has already invested more than $20 million in its Tampa Bay facilities, including one in Sarasota County.
SteriPack
SteriPack invested $7 million to build its first U.S. manufacturing facility in Lakeland. It will manufacture flexible medical packaging and provide engineering and laboratory services to medical device and pharmaceutical companies in the region.
Marinetek NA Inc.
Finland-based marine service provider Marinetek opened its North American headquarters at the Dome Industrial Park in St. Petersburg. The firm chose the Tampa Bay region because of its port facilities, employment environment, lifestyle, access to materials and land assets.
Interconnect Cable Technologies Corp.
Interconnect Cable, which has been operating in The Tampa Bay area since 1988, increased its investments in the area to support its growth in producing data and power cabling products.
Global Organic Specialty Source Inc.
Global Organic invested $930,000 to consolidate its Miami and Manatee County operations in a facility in Sarasota County. This firm distributes organic produce and frozen food products.
Highland Packaging Solutions
Highland Packaging expanded its operations by moving to a much larger facility in Plant City, which has quicker access to rail and expressway transportation.
IC Mechanical Inc.
IC Mechanical provides engineering services in construction and alloy fabrication. Its $1.9-million facility in the Tampa area will house its consolidated operations.
