The number of building permits to construct Tampa Bay homes shot up over the year in the first half of 2013, based on data released by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
For the first 6 months of 2013, home builders like home builders Orange filed for and received 4,380 permits for single family homes, registering an increase of 58% over 2,770 permits received in the first half of 2012.
The Tampa Bay metro area also posted the second highest number of building permits and advanced scanning for single family homes over the six-month period among 19 main metro areas surveyed across Florida. The Tampa area accounted for 15.3 percent of all the 28,610 permits issued in Florida in the first half of 2013. The Tampa area even surpassed the number of building permits issued in the Miami and Jacksonville metro areas. In the multifamily real estate sector, the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metro area posted the third highest number of permits, behind the Miami and Orlando areas. Over the course of a year, the number of permits more than doubled in the Tampa Bay area, from 1,140 in the first half of 2012 to 2,960 in the first half of 2013.

Both types of Florida real estate purchases grew over the year in terms of building permits making the new construction homes a trend.The 28,610 permits for single family homes in the first half of 2013 represented a sharp increase of 45% over the year while the 18,320 permits represented a significant increase of 94%, nearly doubling the number of permits.
