Companies in the professional and business services industry are the top employers providing Tampa Bay jobs.  As of July this year, a total of 207,400 employees are working in this industry.

Here are the top industries and top companies based on number of employees as of July 2014, based on data from the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corp. and the Tampa Bay Partnership*:

MAJOR TAMPA BAY EMPLOYERS THAT EXPANDED over the 5-Year Period from 2010 to 2014

1. AMAZON

The world’s biggest online retailer, AMAZON, opened at South Shore Corporate Park in Ruskin, creating more than 1,000 new jobs.

2. BRISTOL-MYERS SQUIBB

Bristol-Myers Squibb, one of the biggest biopharmaceutical companies in the world, built its North America Capability Center near the Tampa International Airport, creating highly-skilled jobs totalling 579 by 2017.

3. DEPOSITORY TRUST & CLEARING CORP. (DTCC)

The DTCC expanded its only Florida campus, located in New Tampa, that will increase its total number of Tampa-based employees from 300 to 850 by 2015.

4. HEALTHPLAN SERVICES (HPS)

HPS’s facility expansion will create new jobs for more than 1,000 employees by 2018 to add to its current Tampa workforce of more than 650.

5. JAMES HARDIE

James Hardie’s expansion will create more than 100 new jobs by 2015. Its Plant City facility currently employs more than 100 people.

6. MORGAN STANLEY

This global financial services firm, which currently employs 70 professionals, will create 110 jobs at its new facility in Templace Terrace.

7. TRIBRIDGE

This fast-growing technology services firm, currently employing more than 240 in the Tampa Bay area, will add 200 new information technology jobs by 2016.

8. UNITED SERVICES AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION (USAA)

USAA, which currently employs more than 2,500 in the Tampa Bay area,
will create 1,251 new jobs by 2019. Its planned facility will be the biggest build-to-suit development in Hillsborough County since 2001.

SPECIAL JOB CREATORS:  PORT TAMPA BAY and TAMPA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

TAMPA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT has 547 direct employees, in addition to nearly 7,000 employees working for businesses located at the airport.

PORT TAMPA BAY has created 73,478 cargo jobs,  3,119 shipbuilding and repair yard jobs, and 1,981 cruise line jobs, leading to an overall total of 80,216 jobs.
