Florida Continues to be Top Migration Destination

Posted on November 27, 2015

FLORIDA continues to be among the top US states in attracting people from other states, based on reports from the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey and top moving companies Atlas Van Lines Inc. and United Van Lines in 2014 and over the past years.

In 2014, based on the American Community Survey, a total of 546,501 out-of-state residents moved to Florida, the biggest number of inward domestic migration among all the 50 states.

The Top 12 Migration Destinations in 2014, based on 2014 Census data, were:

Rank State No. of Out-of-State Residents
Who Migrated to FLORIDA in 2014
1 Florida 546,501
2 Texas 538,572
3 California 513,968
4 North Carolina 286,533
5 Georgia 274,095

9 Pennsylvania 232,889
10 Washington 220,259

12 Illinois 209,536

Note that the top three favorite states each had more than half-million inward migrants, nearly double the inward migrants of the next-ranking destinations. These are the same three states that have been the favorite destinations of migrants over the past several years.
