Tampa, the Only Florida City in Bloomberg’s 50 Best Cities 2012 List

Posted on October 11, 2012

Come to Tampa, the only Florida city included in Bloomberg Businessweek’s List of the 50 Best Cities in America for the year 2012.

Tampa ranked 34th in the list, tying with Lincoln, Nebraska.  Compared with Tampa, Lincoln does not have a professional sports team and has only about half of the number of Tampa’s restaurants.  Lincoln however was recognized as having the cleanest air among the 50 cities selected.

Bloomberg says that for its 2012 ranking, it added more weight to the leisure side of cities, so it considered more significantly in its ranking the number of restaurants, bars, museums, parks, libraries, and professional sports teams.  It also considered number of colleges, graduate degree holders, household median income, unemployment rate, crime rate and air quality.  It used data mostly from Onboard Informatics.

The ranking posted that the city of Tampa has 1,114 restaurants, 91 bars, 18 museums, 19 libraries, four professional sports teams, six colleges and 10 acres of park land per 1,000 residents.
