Tampa Is Third Best City to Find a Job

In Wallet Hub’s ranking of the country’s 60 largest cities based on job opportunities in 2014, it ranked Tampa as the third best city to find a job. The 60 cities were evaluated based on 13 factors, as follows:

Major Factors:
1.   Job openings per capita
2.   Industrial variety
3.   Pace of Decline in Unemployment Rate
4.   Employment growth
5.   Starting salary
6.   Cost of living
7.   Income tax
8.   Housing costs

Additional Factors:
9.     Full-time versus Part-time job Opportunities
10.   Employer-sponsored health benefits
11.   Percent of employees living below the poverty line
12.   Time Spent Working and Commuting
13.   Friendliness to People with Disabilities

Here are the top 20 cities to find a job based on the 13 factors:

1.   Fort Worth, Texas
2.   Washington, D.C.
3.   Tampa, Florida
4.   Arlington, Texas
5.   Dallas, Texas
6.   Austin, Texas
7.   Seattle, Washington
8.   Denver, Colorado
9.   Mesa, Arizona
10.   Houston, Texas
11.   Raleigh, North Carolina
12.   Corpus Christi, Texas
13.   Aurora, Colorado
14.   Phoenix, Arizona
15.   San Jose, California
16.   San Francisco, California
17.   Las Vegas, Nevada
18.   Charlotte, North Carolina
19.   Minneapolis, Minnesota
20.   Kansas City, Missouri

There are only three Florida cities that made it to the Best list:
No. 3     Tampa
No. 30   Miami
No. 35   Jacksonville

Wallet Hub mentioned that employees in Tampa are the eighth best paid in the country, taking into account the cost of living in the area and they benefit from the city’s ninth-ranking industrial diversity.

According to data from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, as published by the Tampa Hillsborough Economic Development Corp., these are the top industries in the Tampa metro area based on number of employees as of December 2013:

1. Professional and business services 208,300
2. Education and health services 198,400
3. Retail trade 160,400
4. Government 151,800
5. Leisure and hospitality 130,300
6. Finance and insurance 76,500
7. Manufacturing 60,100
8. Construction 59,400
9. Wholesale trade 48,300
10. Other services 44,700
11. Transportation, warehousing and utilities 27,500
12. Information 25,500
13. Real estate, rental and leasing 22,900
14. Mining and logging 500
