It says that the next winter could be much colder than this year’s winter and that three or four of the next five winters could be as cold as this winter, which is most likely to become the coldest for the U.S. since the 1980s.
The cold could stay for some more weeks in many states, from the Plains to the Northeast, and could persist until April in certain states. In major cities such as Boston, New York City, Chicago, Atlanta and Minneapolis, temperatures have been averaging below normal since December 1 last year but still need a good heating tune up before the winter comes.
